At Feeding South Florida, we are so excited to put our Best Fork Forward in celebration of National Nutrition Month. As advocates for healthy and fresh food, we challenge you to join us in making better nutritional choices, not just during the month of March, but all year round!

Here are some easy ways that you can put your best fork forward and make sure that you and your family are getting the nutrition you need to live a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Change it up! Don’t get stuck in a food routine. Work on creating a weekly menu that incorporates a large variety of healthy foods that you love. Meal prepping in the beginning of the week can you help ensure that you avoid food waste and get the most of your fresh ingredients.
  1. Skip the take out. Not only is cooking at home a more cost effective option over time, it also helps you control the ingredients, and make sure that you’re getting the right servings of grains, protein, and fresh veggies on every plate. And the great part about cooking—the more you do it, the better you get it! Try some new recipes with your family and see how they come out!
  1. Portion control is important! MyPlate is a great tool to help structure your family’s meals and make sure you’ve got the right combo for a nutritional plate. Fruits and veggies should take up at least half the plate, and water should always be the drink of choice at every meal. (Sub seltzer water for soda lovers as a better-for-you alternative.) We also love this Daily Nutrition Guide!
  1. Get moving, most days. Keep your weight in check by incorporating physical activity at least 4 days out of the week. Even a brisk walk for 30 minutes at a time can kick start a fitness routine and make huge improvements to your overall health.
