Feeding South Florida Launches its Choice Pantry Program

Opening on Thursday, October 20

Representatives from AvMed and other community partners to host ribbon cutting ceremony at Pembroke Park Warehouse at 10:00 a.m.

WHAT:  Feeding South Florida and community partner, AvMed, have joined together to open the first choice pantry program in South Florida. Feeding South Florida’s AvMed Choice Pantry Program will open on October 20th in Pembroke Park to help alleviate family hunger through the provision of food and benefits assistance in a private environment.

The 372-square-foot pantry focuses on providing not only pantry staples, but also fresh fruits and dairy as part of a balanced diet in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate program. Feeding South Florida’s choice pantry also will provide benefits assistance (SNAP, TCA, Medicaid, Florida KidCare) as well as non-food items such as kitchen appliances, health and beauty aids, and much-needed toiletries. Once families arrive at the pantry, they will complete an intake form and receive an overall assessment based on needs. Enrolled families will also have the opportunity to shop in a dignified, private environment, choosing from a variety of nutritious items to stock their kitchen.

Families in need of assistance can access the pantry by appointment, Monday-Friday, with the assistance of our Program Coordinator. Once entered in the system, families then receive a service plan and will have the ability to access pantry items once a month. There is no charge to families in need of assistance. Once they’re served by Feeding South Florida, they will receive a referral to a partner agency in their zip code for ongoing support, as necessary.

WHEN: Thursday, October 20 at 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Ribbon cutting to take place at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Main Warehouse in Pembroke Park 2501 SW 32 Terrace, Pembroke Park, FL 33023.
