Feeding South Florida has announced that Alan Alvarez, director of the Marlins Foundation, has been appointed to Feeding South Florida’s Board of Directors.
Alvarez, who has been part of the Marlins organization for seven years, manages the day-to-day operations of the team foundation and helps guide corporate and charitable giving for the company. Throughout his tenure with the Marlins, the foundation has invested over $10 million in nonprofit organizations throughout South Florida.
“Mr. Alvarez has been a longtime supporter of Feeding South Florida’s mission, and we are delighted to have him join us in a leadership role,” said Paco Vélez, Feeding South Florida president and CEO. “His experience and knowledge of our community will undoubtedly help us increase our services and support to the 710,370 South Floridians struggling to put food on the table.”
In addition to his work with the Marlins Foundation, Alvarez is active with several non-profit organizations.
Alvarez earned a bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Recreation and Sports Management from the University of Florida and currently is completing his MBA at Florida International University.
“Mr. Alvarez has shown incredible strength of character through his commitment to supporting philanthropic organizations. We welcome him to our Board of Directors and look forward to collaborating with him for our community’s benefit,” said Harris Siskind of McDermott Will & Emery, Feeding South Florida Board chair.
“It’s a tremendous honor to join the Feeding South Florida board,” Alvarez said. “Through my current role at the Marlins Foundation, I’ve experienced firsthand the great work of this organization and worked alongside them in their continued mission to end hunger in South Florida. As a member of their board, I am more than ever committed to helping them advance this mission.”
