Dolphins, AARP Foundation Host Third Annual Million Meal Pack
Two parties extend partnership, with further investment in the South Florida community as presenting sponsor of Special Teams program
The Miami Dolphins and AARP Foundation teamed up for the 3rd Annual Million Meal Pack, packing 1,035,360 meals that will be delivered by U.S. Hunger to Feeding South Florida’s network of individuals 50 in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. In addition, the Dolphins and AARP Foundation are excited to announce the extension of their community program partnership for three additional years, including making AARP Foundation the presenting sponsor of the Dolphins Special Teams volunteer network.
“The Miami Dolphins and AARP Foundation are committed to helping low-income older adults in South Florida,” AARP Foundation president Lisa Marsh Ryerson said. “More than 1 in 5 Miami-Dade seniors struggle with poverty. Extending our relationship means more opportunities to lend a helping hand through volunteer efforts in the community. Giving back to the people of South Florida enriches the lives of both those in need and those who volunteer, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve.” At the Million Meal Pack, more than 5,000 energetic volunteers worked an assembly line, combining ingredients and vitamins, to collectively make one million nutritious meals of rice and beans. The volunteers donated their time to help those less fortunate and reveled in music, football activities, chances to win prizes and a free t-shirt. The event included a Community Festival that inspired participants to look for opportunities to continue to serve their senior neighbors.
“This event year in and year out continues to grow and the impact is felt through the energy of the more than 5,000 volunteers working collaboratively together to serve our community,” Miami Dolphins President & CEO Tom Garfinkel said. “We are excited to continue our mutual partnership with AARP Foundation and are grateful for their investment in the South Florida community.”
AARP Foundation will continue to grow its leadership position within the Miami Dolphins volunteerism platform and utilize the army of Special Teams volunteers to help execute the abundant service efforts in South Florida. The Miami Dolphins and AARP Foundation share a passion for volunteerism, engagement and action. Designating AARP Foundation as the presenting sponsor of Special Teams—the largest volunteer program in the NFL—best aligns those values moving forward.
The agreement will continue to positively impact the South Florida region in an effort to help older adults facing challenges with hunger, isolation, income and housing needs through targeted and customized events to address these issues. Additional forms of recognition of AARP Foundation as the presenting sponsor include name and logo recognition on media backdrops during the team’s practices and game day sponsorship of a Miami Dolphins home game.
