Feeding South Florida Receives $11,416 Investment from the Caterpillar Foundation to Help Feed Families and Children in Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade, October 3, 2016– Feeding South Florida announced a $11,416 grant from Caterpillar’s philanthropic organization, the Caterpillar Foundation, to provide food to individuals who face hunger in Miami-Dade County. A member of the Feeding America network, Feeding South Florida is one of 34 food banks nationwide to receive this grant.
“Hunger is an issue in every community. Feeding South Florida is thankful to the Caterpillar Foundation for its commitment to ending hunger and supporting children and families in need in Miami-Dade County,” said Paco Velez, President and CEO of Feeding South Florida.
Each year, 42 million people in the United States face hunger, including 784,110 in South Florida. In Miami-Dade County alone, 293,070 individuals in need of food assistance, 264,280 of whom are children.
“The Caterpillar Foundation is committed to alleviating poverty in the communities in which we live and work. We are proud to partner with Feeding South Florida to support individuals in Miami-Dade County who may not know where their next meal will come from,” said Michele Sullivan, president of the Caterpillar Foundation.
The Caterpillar Foundation’s national investment will help 300,000 people facing hunger in Caterpillar communities in 44 counties. Caterpillar Foundation has helped provide more than 5 million meals to Caterpillar communities since 2015.
With the support of the Caterpillar Inc. of our Mobile Pantry program, Feeding South Florida is able to bring much needed fresh produce for our families and children who face hunger in areas that have been deemed food deserts in Miami-Dade County.
