Feeding South Florida Appoints Steve Stowe of the Miami HEAT and Ignacio Felix of McKinsey to its Board of Directors, as the Nonprofit Organization Celebrates its 40th Year of ServiceStev
Pembroke Park, Fla. — Jan. 28, 2021 — Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida, is pleased to announce that Steve Stowe and Ignacio Felix have been appointed to the organization’s Board of Directors for a three-year term. Stowe is vice president/executive director of the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund; Felix is a partner in the Miami office of McKinsey & Company, an American worldwide management consulting firm.
As Feeding South Florida celebrates its 40th year of service, its Board of Directors is a dedicated and passionate group of individuals committed to the mission of ending hunger in South Florida. According to Feeding South Florida’s records, over 1.4 million individuals in South Florida are now struggling to put food on the table as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020, Feeding South Florida provided over 174.5 million pounds of food (145.7 million meals) to South Floridians in need; a 91% increase over the previous year ― up from 61.5 million pounds. It served approximately 2.8 million households in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. Feeding South Florida is now the second largest food bank in the United States.
“We are thankful for Steve’s longtime philanthropic expertise, and for Ignacio’s in-depth knowledge of supply chain matters,” said Vélez. “Both are not only leaders in their respective industries, but are also deeply involved in the South Florida community. As we celebrate our 40th year of service at Feeding South Florida, Steve and Ignacio will be integral to the efforts of our Board of Directors.”
Entering his 21th season with the Miami HEAT, fourth season as Vice President and 15th season as Executive Director of the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund, Stowe oversees the fundraising arm of the team, while working alongside the players and coaches to support their local philanthropic endeavors. Additionally, he acts as a liaison between the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund’s Board of Directors and the rest of the organization.
“It is an honor to work with the Feeding South Florida board, and to be a part of this incredible organization that is making a huge difference in the lives of so many South Floridians who are facing food insecurity,” said Stowe. “I am deeply committed to serving the people of this community and impacting their lives in a positive way.”
Stowe is also currently a Board member for YMCA of South Florida, Arthur Lee McDuffie Center for Racial Justice, Miami Beach Police Athletic League, and Voices for Children Foundation. He has also worked on Zo’s Summer Groove/Zo’s Winter Groove event steering committee and has participated with Univision’s “Premios Juventud” Youth Awards Scholarship selection panel.
Stowe received a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a minor in economics from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then earned a master’s in sports management and a master’s in business administration from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.
He is a native and resident of Miami Beach, where he lives with his wife Johanna. The couple has three children: Zayden, Zahara and Zia.
Felix joined McKinsey & Company in 2004. He leads the company’s manufacturing and supply chain service line for consumer goods companies globally, and has worked on operations transformations for the last 20+ years.
Recently, Felix worked with the Feeding America® national office to estimate the supply/demand gap across the nation’s food banks and created different scenarios for what to expect. He also collaborated with Feeding South Florida to assess logistics and warehousing capabilities, developed a plan to manage the COVID-19 pandemic increased demand requirements, launched a capability building effort, and designed a roadmap of initiatives for continuous improvement.
Felix led the Miami office for McKinsey & Company for 6 years, and currently serves as a Board officer of the Florida Council of 100, a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organization of Florida business leaders who advise Florida’s governor. He received his industrial engineering degree from ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico; a master’s in engineering management from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois.
He resides in Miami with his wife and their three children.
