FSF CEO, Paco Vélez, Wins Sun-Sentinel’s Top Workplaces Award

Paco Vélez, president & CEO of Feeding South Florida™, the Feeding America™ food bank with the largest service area in the state, is a recipient of Sun Sentinel’s Top Workplaces for People on the Move award in the Top Professional category. Vélez is one of 10 local professionals to win the award. The award recognizes professionals under the age of 45 with a commitment to excellence, and companies dedicated to developing future business leaders of South Florida.

Vélez was recognized at the Top Workplaces for People on the Move award program on Thursday, Aug. 21, 6:30–9 p.m. at the W Hotel Fort Lauderdale.

Vélez leads Feeding South Florida to help set the table for the 871,920 residents of South Florida who are food insecure. This includes 287,650 children and 150,000 older adults throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. Under his direction, Feeding South Florida staff is working to encourage public support to end hunger, a major issue in South Florida.

Having joined Feeding South Florida in 2012 with extensive experience in food banking, Vélez is infusing the traditional nonprofit compassion/culture with innovation, best practices, and fresh energy, creating a flurry of action … and results. An example of this is his leadership during Hunger Action Month (September), when Feeding South Florida is presenting a variety of events and activities to encourage South Floridians to help end hunger and spread the word about the pervasiveness of hunger in South Florida.

“I’m honored to have won Sun-Sentinel’s esteemed ‘Top Workplaces for People on the Move’ award,” said Vélez. “At Feeding South Florida, we continue to strive to end hunger. The face of hunger is no longer only that of the homeless – hunger affects our neighbors, friends, family members and co-workers.
