Florida State Representative Shevrin Jones Leads 4th Annual Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot and Paddle

Healthy living is something many people advocate for, but some choose to take it one step further and lead by example. After losing more than 200 pounds, Florida State Representative Shevrin Jones will lead by example on Thanksgiving morning when he joins thousands for the 4th Annual Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot and Paddle on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

“Having come this far in accomplishing my mission – to adopt a healthy lifestyle, I am excited to now be able to participate in this 5k race and promote healthy living on a community-wide scale,” said state representative Shevrin D. Jones.

The 4th Annual 2014 Turkey Trot and Paddle will support two local community organizations committed to developing leadership, inspiring community service, and promoting health and wellness – iTRACE Foundation, Inc. and Emerge Broward: a program of the Leadership Broward Foundation, Inc.

“Exercise has had such a positive impact on my life and my health,” said Representative Jones. “I am inviting the youth in our community to join me as I lead the more than 2,000 participants in Fort Lauderdale’s most anticipated annual 5k. Together, I know we can set a good example and have a ton of fun on race day.”

The 4th Annual Turkey Trot and Paddle kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on A1A, one block south of Las Olas Boulevard. The race route extends north along A1A to Sunrise Boulevard and finishes back at Las Olas Boulevard. Participants have the option to walk, run or paddleboard.
Registration for the event can be done on-line, by mail, in person at one of the packet pickup locations or on-site on race day. The cost to walk, run or paddleboard is $35.00 for adults/ $20.00 for children 12 and under/ $25.00 for virtual participants. The deadline for mail-in registration is November 21, 2014 and the deadline for online registration is November 23, 2014.

In addition to participating in the race, all are encouraged to donate canned goods in benefit of Feeding South Florida, the leading domestic hunger relief organization in South Florida, serving Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties. Feeding South Florida works with a network of nonprofit partner agencies, including soup kitchens, food pantries and other emergency food service programs.
