Gearing up for our Outrun Hunger 5K!

Feeding South Florida | How to get ready for our Outrun Hunger 5K presented by JM Family Enterprises, Inc.

Feeding South Florida is so excited to bring hundreds of runners, joggers, and walkers together for the common cause of raising funds and awareness towards ending hunger throughout our community. If you’re one of the participants, or are considering joining in on the fun, here are some tips to help you gear up for our Outrun Hunger 5K taking place this Saturday morning!

Get some rest.
While pre-race jitters could keep you up the night before your big race, make sure that you’re planning to get at least 7 to 8 hours for the two nights leading up to the event. Additionally, take the day off from physical activity the day right before your race.

Hydrate!
Most of us aren’t getting the recommended dose of H20 that we should be getting every day, but in preparation for your 5K, make sure you’re putting in an extra effort to get at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. If you want to chug some water right before the race, we recommend room temperature instead of ice cold water, which is a little easier on your body.

Stretch it out.
Start stretching a few days before the race to keep everything loose and in a state of active recovery, this is especially important if you’ve been training for your upcoming 5K. Make sure to practice dynamic stretching before the race, and static stretching post-race to cool down your body and bring down your heart rate. Share your experience.
Help spread the word about hunger insecurity throughout your own network. Post on social media and tag @feedingsfl to share your photos and race experience. Not only is this a great way to document your race experience, but you’re also helping to bring awareness to a serious issue in our community. Can’t wait to share your race selfies and finish line photos!

Have fun!
Whether this is your first or fifteenth 5K, make sure that you don’t take the race too seriously! A positive attitude and encouraging self-talk (I think I can, I think I can!) will not only help you finish, but actually decrease your time as well.
